Color, lighting and artwork play a crucial part in converting walled rooms into fun, energizing spaces.  Bright colors, used as accents, add depth and vitality to the interior spaces, transforming the original white-walled house into a cosy and inviting home.

The dining room, originally designed as a guest room, is particularly charming, with a built-in niche temple, a serving space and cutlery storage to hide away any clutter.

A modern marble-topped dining table with a metal base takes center stage in this well-lit space. The table was sourced from Home Center and is uplifted with colorful mustard and teal upholstered chairs.

These colors are echoed in the accent wall, painted a cheerful mustard yellow. A pair of paintings, reflecting the colors of the chairs, bring the design elements together to create a fun, stylish vibe. Elegant light fixtures above the dining table complement the color scheme perfectly.

A delightful planted wooden partition divides the dining space from the living room, which was designed with splashes of color that match those of the adjacent dining space.

Bright and airy, the living room is designed with light, neutral foundational colors of beige and white for the flooring and walls. The ceiling is kept simple with a large recessed center that visually makes the room look larger.

A pair of mustard yellow chairs accompany a teal-colored sofa, recalling the accent colors of the adjoining dining area.

All the paintings were created either by Milestone, or carefully sourced from different locations to create a recurring design theme throughout the house.

In the living room, a pair of paintings depicting water lilies and fish bring the space to life. Wooden accents add a warm richness to the color and material palette.

A wooden partition, with planted niches resembles the partition separating the dining from the living space. The partition adds further privacy for the kitchen and creates a semi-enclosed space, which is more functional in hiding visual clutter from plain sight.

White cabinets and light-colored counters help to maintain the feel of space, and contrast gently with brown and wooden overtones to counter the coolness of the white.

A staircase leads to the bedrooms upstairs; accent turquoise color and bespoke signature artwork by Milestone help to add a zest to this conventional stairway.

The artwork is a Milestone signature piece titled ‘Scaling up, Climbing men’ and is created with stone pieces, weighing a total of 300 kgs. The stone pieces are removable in segments so that the clients can transport the art piece should they look to move in the future.

On the upper level are the master bedroom, children’s room and a guest room.

The master bedroom is decorated with multiple, complementary colors that give it a perky, lively look and feel. A turquoise back wall forms a backdrop for a large bed with a wooden headboard.

The bedspread and colorful cushions were sourced from Home Center, 2XL and Marina Home Interiors and add layering and depth to the bed ensemble. A pair of colorful paintings adorn the wall behind the bed.

For the children’s room, Milestone took great care to ensure that it looked soft and inviting without looking babyish. Soft peach-pink is the predominant color in the room, offset with white bedroom furniture that was purchased by the client.

Milestone designed and accessorized the furniture to make the room look chic and sprightly. Floral artwork paired with blackbirds on the rear wall add a lovely finishing touch to this color-matched children’s bedroom.

The guest bedroom is simple but elegant with a green accent color that runs throughout the room. April Green Jotun paint color adorns the walls and is tempered with elegant, white furniture pieces and accessories.

Once again, color and artwork play a big part in adding a dynamic quality to each of the spaces.

The landscaping is kept simple with just a handful of bright green-leafed plants that help to make the compact garden feel visually larger.

The flooring and walls are left unadorned so as not to feel cluttered as we have gone with a ‘less is more’ vibe for this pretty garden. Porcelain stepping stones lead to a porcelain wood platform that emphasizes the wall water feature.

The water feature is visible from the dining room windows and comprises multiple stone panels with three water spouts.

Green grass surrounds the porcelain pavers and deck, keeping the layout and design simple and allowing space for the children to run and play. The water feature is the only visually heavy element in the landscape and is brought into focus by the simplicity of its surrounds.

The entrance to the house is elegant in its clean lines; the neutral tones make it feel larger, while the art elements and grouping of pots adds a little splash of color to offset the monochromatic wall and flooring color.

As is prevalent in every room, the artwork adds a dash of style to the master bedroom and also makes way for a cozy nook furnished with a yellow armchair and table.
